Wonderful sandwiches that my 77 year old husband misses a LOT living in the Midwest. Atmosphere can't get a 5 star rating because you can't eat them there. It's how they've mostly done it AND I'm guessing it's so staff and give 100% focus on making the best Italian sandwich possible. Did you know, they will SHIP them to any place in the country if you can afford it? Hope to go there again multiple times when visiting in the area!!👌
My peeps said I had to try Amato’s Italian Grinder. I like Italians and I like Grinder so why not?
The overall experience dampened by enthusiasm. The store is more of a convenience store atmosphere so expect zero ambiance. The cashier was pretty hot on the outside but rather empty on the inside bordering on New England rude. Brewed tea? - no way grab a canned drink. Quality chips offered- not really.
The grinder looked delicious on the outside but had standard processed meat. The olives were nice as were the peppers. I am usually critical of bread, but is was soft and very fresh. The crowd was more the food stamps crowd than the hipster foodies Portland is known for so I give it an average rating overall.
I love the food here & the people are so friendly & polite. I am always getting a sandwich from Amato's. They make the best Italians in Maine. All their food is delicious! 😋
Not too happy about my sandwich being put through the oven without being asked. Not everyone wants crunchy bread that makes a big mess of crumbs with each bite. Waste of $11
I recommend "The Real Italian" sandwich. No matter what this type of sandwich is named across the US, the one Amato's makes is by far the best.
Best Italian sandwiches in Maine, assorted pizzas, hot and cold sandwiches available. When company comes, gotta take them here, and eat the sandwich at the Eastern Prom. Plenty of parking, usually located in a busy intersection, generally a take out business although a few places have seating.
This Amato’s is staying true to their origin. The original Italian is incredibly unique and delicious. Best sandwich meal ever!
